Designing a new digital
healthcare platform.
Dexcom is an industry leader in glucose monitoring technology, but they also wanted to have an industry leading digital platform to drive better patient care. IA Collaborative was hired to define the experience and design of this platform.
We worked closely with Dexcom to develop an entirely new system with a unique new approach to providing HCPs and patients with better insight into diabetes data.
The team and I at IA received a design patent for our work in creating a new data visualization and analytics method.

Like all of our projects, the IA team took a user-centered approach to get as close as possible to the healthcare providers and the patients we were designing for. In addition to numerous in-home and in-clinic observations, we also dove into multiple weeks of personal immersions.
Multiple BGM (blood glucose meter) finger prick tests per day, glucose level tracking, diet tracking and adjustment, and eventually using CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) and performing daily calibrations.
These immersions allow us to live the problem by getting as close to the patient experience as possible.
Through first-hand experience of pain points we’re able to gain both information and empathy that is vital to designing better solutions.
Design : Concept
At the core of the design; an intuitive visualization approach that helps patients and their healthcare providers quickly see the direct effect of food and insulin on their glucose levels.
Clarity’s overview shows only the most important information and relevant insights. This streamlines the in-office visit by prioritizing the most significant concerns first.
The identified patterns lead directly to the related data; providing HCPs with the granularity they need while eliminating the need to “dig."
Healthy patterns are also highlighted to provide teaching moments and positive feedback.
